With the aim of strengthening organizational skills and community social participation, the Gender Unit of the National Council of Protected Areas, in fulfillment of its Technical Support functions and in accordance with its mission to advise, coordinate, promote, and generate mechanisms for integrating a…
gender perspective based on the principles of equality and equity with cultural relevance in conservation projections and the sustainable use of biological biodiversity resources and their ecosystem services, developed a series of preparatory activities to promote access to productive mechanisms to benefit local organizations from the perspective of gender equality and equity through environmentally friendly sustainable tourism activities. This was done in coordination with the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association (ARCAS) as the co-administrator of the Hawai Multiple Use Area.
During the awareness and training session, collective actions were identified to enhance the economic value contributed by men, women, and youth in their families and communities through biodiversity resources.
It was also highlighted that the basis of community development is the application of basic principles oriented towards:
Cooperation, empathy, reciprocity, complementarity, respect, and teamwork.
Additionally, participants undertook a tour and experience exchange with groups of women and youth from the municipality of San Juan la Laguna, who are role models for successful productive projects with an emphasis on sustainable tourism. Examples include honey production, cacao, medicinal plants, and textile art.
We continue to work for biological diversity and protected areas.
